Car Description

1970 Dodge Challenger at Lonestar Classic Cars: Iconic Mopar Muscle

Behold the legendary 1970 Dodge Challenger with VIN CODE: JH23H0E116445, a true American Mopar muscle car boasting matching numbers, featuring a 340 CI motor and a matching numbers 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. This exceptionally clean and solid Challenger has recently made its way from the dry Arizona desert to our showroom.

With a fascinating history that includes only three owners prior to our acquisition, this Challenger is a rare find. According to “Galen Govier,” this is one of only 2,819 340/4-speed Challengers built in 1970, making it an extremely rare piece of automotive history. The car’s appearance is reminiscent of the Challenger from the iconic 1971 movie “Vanishing Point.”

This Challenger is generously optioned with the original matching numbers 340 engine, a matching numbers 4-speed with a Pistol Grip shifter, roof drip rails, dual exhaust with chrome exhaust tips, woodgrain console, and more. The undercarriage metal and the entire body are remarkably clean and solid, reflecting its origins in the dry deserts.

Originally painted in “Bright Red” (Code “FE5”), the car was repainted white to emulate the Challenger from “Vanishing Point.” The paint shows nicely, classified as above average driver quality, with minimal touch-ups over the years. The Challenger’s clean, straight, and solid body reveals no blisters or bubbles, showcasing its easy and pampered life.

Underneath, the car features a clean and nicely detailed undercarriage, including extremely clean and solid floors and trunk. Powering this Challenger is the original matching numbers 340 Mopar motor, rebuilt to stock specs with approximately 20,000 miles since the complete rebuild. The engine bay is highly detailed, maintaining a factory-correct appearance.

Paired with the rebuilt matching numbers manual transmission, correct exhaust manifolds, and dual exhaust with chrome tips, this Challenger delivers true Mopar muscle power. The trunk compartment is clean, housing a full complement of spare tire, lug wrench, jack assembly, and mat.

Completing the package are Keystone-style mag wheels with 215/65/15 tires up front and 255/60/15 rear tires. The black bucket seat interior, adorned with a woodgrain center console and a Pistol Grip shifter, presents beautifully. Upholstered with velour inlays, the interior features operational lights, blinkers, hi-low beams, horn, heater, aftermarket radio, and even backup lights. A rare Dixon “Illuminator” digital tach adds a unique touch.

Every detail, from chrome and stainless to emblems and brightwork, is in beautiful condition. Don’t miss the opportunity to own this iconic 1970 Dodge Challenger, a true representation of American Mopar muscle. Visit Lonestar Classic Cars today!
